Wearable technology is one of the next emerging technologies in healthcare. They come in all different forms such as: watches, headsets, contact lenses, and tops. The Hitoe collections created NTT DoComo and Toray allow for connectivity to your phone. Each piece has three sensors built in; they are durable enough to be washed. It comes in different styles such as: sports wear, casual, and sleep. (http://www.psfk.com)
According to Wear-and-Forget Health Monitoring, these wearable technologies will measure your blood pressure and assess you activity tolerance during physical therapy sessions. The challenge with this technology is its need to be form fitting rather then the in style clothing which is loose fitting. The sensors need to be touching the skin. (http://www.ece.vt.edu)
The future of wearable technology can help assess patients and get a daily average of their health rather than yearly average. It will help patients with chronic illness by having them stay at home and be monitored rather than coming into hospitals and clinics and possibly exposing themselves to more illness. This will help doctors find problems immediately rather then later on. This technology can improve our populations health by being more proactive with our health assessment tools.
